One of the many ways we’ve heard of trailer editors breaking into the business seems almost like a fairytale: An unknown to the industry, without a boss or a client telling them what to do, using their own instincts, and mastery of editing tools, to create something that is undeniably great. Another way in is through the front door, and that undeniably exceptional talent, by taking his passion and focusing it during his downtime, in this week’s episode, is Sean Uyeoka, Editor at Aspect.
Even though he was just a few months into his job as an assistant at Aspect, Sean created a teaser for BLACK MASS that became his calling card. Leapfrogging the usual career path many runners, AEs face, Sean turned his early success, and a CLIO award winner, into a career that has spanned and included crime stories, indies, horror, and even Captain Underpants.
Sean Uyeoka, Editor at Aspect, arrived on the scene with quite a splash with a BLACK MASS teaser that garnered so much industry recognition that he finished when he was still an assistant. Since then, Sean hasn’t looked back having gone on to contribute to a diverse range of other top notch pieces such as trailers for ANNABELLE CREATION, MOXIE, MOTHERLESS BROOKLYN, FIVE FEET APART, CAPTAIN UNDERPANTS, WOLVES AT THE DOOR, FRIENDS FROM COLLEGE, THE CURSE OF LA LLORONA and many more.
