UPDATE:
The first trailer for Tim Storey’s Shaft (previously known as Son of Shaft) – the fifth installment in the nearly fifty year-old franchise and the sequel to the 2000 film of the same name starring Samuel L. Jackson – has been prepared by Warner Bros for release very soon.
The piece was rated today by Alberta Film Ratings and we expect it online in the next couple of weeks: we suspect it’ll hit U.S. theatres with Alita: Battle Angel on Valentine’s weekend. As always, as soon as more info comes in (as well as the trailer itself) we will be sure to update!

JJ, aka John Shaft Jr., may be a cyber security expert with a degree from MIT, but to uncover the truth behind his best friend’s untimely death, he needs an education only his dad can provide. Absent throughout JJ’s youth, the legendary locked-and-loaded John Shaft agrees to help his progeny navigate Harlem’s heroin-infested underbelly. And while JJ’s own FBI analyst’s badge may clash with his dad’s trademark leather coat, there’s no denying family. Besides, Shaft’s got an agenda of his own, and a score to settle that’s professional and personal.
Starring Jessie Usher, Samuel L. Jackson, Alexandra Shipp, Regina Hall and Richard Roundtree, the film is out in the U.S. on June 14, followed by a Netflix release internationally – including the UK – with a date to be announced.
