UPDATE (Aug 28): The trailer has now been rated by the German FSK (with a runtime of 1:40) as well as the Ontario Film Review Board – it appears likely that we should see the new look online in time for the film’s world premiere at the Venice Film Festival this Wednesday!
On the heels of a 4-minute extended preview hitting U.S. IMAXes last month and a separate IMAX-exclusive preview on the docket for UK venues soon, what appears to be a brand new trailer for Damien Chazelle’s First Man has been rated by the UK’s BBFC today. Given the runtime and the naming of this piece (one would have expected a ‘Trailer B’ label on this one), our guess is that this could be initially intended as an extended TV trailer/spot for the U.S. market; so be on the lookout for it during major TV events airing on the other side of the Atlantic! (UPDATE: UK chain-specific versions of this trailer have also now been rated, suggesting tickets going on sale very soon)
We’ll be sure to update this post with more info coming in, as we expect it to release in UK cinemas and online in the coming weeks – so stay tuned.
On the heels of their six-time Academy Award®-winning smash, La La Land, Oscar®-winning director Damien Chazelle and star Ryan Gosling reteam for Universal Pictures’ First Man, the riveting story of NASA’s mission to land a man on the moon, focusing on Neil Armstrong and the years 1961-1969. A visceral, first-person account, based on the book by James R. Hansen, the movie will explore the sacrifices and the cost—on Armstrong and on the nation—of one of the most dangerous missions in history.
Starring Ryan Gosling, Claire Foy, Jason Clarke, Kyle Chandler, Patrick Fugit, Ciaran Hinds, Ethan Embry, Shea Whigham, Corey Stoll and Pablo Schreiber, the film premieres at the Venice Film Festival on August 29, and is released in the U.S. and the UK on October 12.
