)/UPDATE (Jan 23): IGN has dropped the new poster for the film, along with the announcement that the trailer is set to drop at 8 am PT/11am ET/4pm UK tomorrow – Wednesday, January 24. The info was also sent out to those who have signed up on GoJaeger.com (h/t @BasedGarbanzo). We’ll have the trailer as soon as it arrives.
The second trailer for Steven S. DeKnight’s Pacific Rim: Uprising – the first proper look at the film since the first trailer at last October’s New York Comic-Con – has been rated tonight by Alberta Film Ratings.
Given the timing of the rating, we’d expect it could arrive as early as next week with Maze Runner: The Death Cure. Alternatively, they could hold off showing it theatrically until Black Panther, but that’s still – albeit slightly under – a month away. And there’s also the case of the Super Bowl, with Variety confirming that Universal is set to have some ad time during the game on February 4. Will they debut the trailer online then, with a spot airing alongside it? In any case, only time will tell – stay tuned for further updates.
The globe-spanning conflict between otherworldly monsters of mass destruction and the human-piloted super-machines built to vanquish them was only a prelude to the all-out assault on humanity. Jake Pentecost, a once-promising Jaeger pilot whose legendary father gave his life to secure humanity’s victory against the monstrous “Kaiju”, has since abandoned his training only to become caught up in a criminal underworld. But when an even more unstoppable threat is unleashed to tear through our cities and bring the world to its knees, he is given one last chance to live up to his father’s legacy by his estranged sister, Mako Mori — who is leading a brave new generation of pilots that have grown up in the shadow of war. As they seek justice for the fallen, their only hope is to unite together in a global uprising against the forces of extinction. Jake is joined by gifted rival pilot Lambert and 15-year-old Jaeger hacker Amara, as the heroes of the PPDC become the only family he has left. Rising up to become the most powerful defense force to ever walk the earth, they will set course for a spectacular all-new adventure on a towering scale.
Starring John Boyega, Scott Eastwood, Cailee Spaeny and Jing Tian, with Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day and Burn Gorman returning in their roles from the original film, Pacific Rim: Uprising is released March 23, 2018 in the U.S. and UK.
