UPDATE: Novel author and the film’s co-writer Ernest Cline has announced on Twitter that the trailer will make its world premiere this Sunday, December 10, at 9am PT/noon ET/5pm UK, at a special Alamo Drafthouse fan event in Austin, TX. The event featuring the trailer launch and a live Q&A with Cline will stream live on the film’s Facebook page, similar to the full Blade Runner 2049 trailer debut back in May. This is no doubt also tied into the film’s presentation at Sao Paolo CCXP Comic-Con that day.

The battle of the December trailers continues – we were wondering which film and studio were next going to throw their hat in the ring and join the ranks of Avengers: Infinity War, A Wrinkle In Time, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and Mortal Engines in debuting a brand new look at an upcoming release in front of Star Wars: The Last Jedi theatrically.

Alberta Film Ratings has classified the long-awaited second trailer for Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One, which we almost definitely expect Warner Bros. to drop online in the next week or so, in time to play with The Last Jedi. As always, we will be sure to update when more details come in, including an official online release date.

The film is set in 2045, with the world on the brink of chaos and collapse. But the people have found salvation in the OASIS, an expansive virtual reality universe created by the brilliant and eccentric James Halliday. When Halliday dies, he leaves his immense fortune to the first person to find a digital Easter egg he has hidden somewhere in the OASIS, sparking a contest that grips the entire world. When an unlikely young hero named Wade Watts decides to join the contest, he is hurled into a breakneck, reality-bending treasure hunt through a fantastical universe of mystery, discovery and danger.

Starring Tye Sheridan, Olivia Cooke, Ben Mendelsohn, Mark Rylance, Simon Pegg and T. J. Miller, Ready Player One is released in US and UK cinemas on March 30, 2018. See the teaser trailer released at SDCC 2017 below:
