UPDATE (October 18):
Deluxe Digital have sent the trailer to U.S. cinemas to play with this week’s releases, including the fantastic The Killing of a Sacred Deer. We expect it online in the coming days.
This follows Forbes contributor Scott Mendelson giving us the heads up on the trailer already playing with Marshall, as well as the trailer’s classification on Alberta Film Ratings revealing the full title of the film – 12 Strong: The Declassified True Story Of The Horse Soldiers – which confirms that this is indeed Horse Soldiers re-titled.
Every now and again, we come across a potential movie re-titling through a trailer classification or listing. This is one of those – following on from Joseph Kosinski’s Granite Mountain becoming Only The Brave.
The Manitoba Film Classification Board has rated the first trailer for a Warner Bros. film titled 12 Strong today – and that title currently (aside from social media accounts set up at @12StrongMovie) doesn’t appear anywhere on the studio’s official slate.
So, taking a look at the studio’s coming slate and picking out upcoming releases which are yet to get any footage (with premises that would fit a title such as ’12 Strong’) – and it appears the best fit is Nicolai Fuglsig’s Afghanistan war drama Horse Soldier. In any case, whatever 12 Strong may be, we expect this to arrive in time for Geostorm next week – so stay tuned.
Horse Soldiers tells the story of the first Special Forces team deployed to Afghanistan after 9/11; under the leadership of a new captain, the team must work with an Afghani warlord to take down the Taliban.
Starring Chris Hemsworth, Michael Shannon, Michael Peña and Trevante Rhodes, Horse Soldiers is set to release in the U.S. on January 19, with the UK on January 26. 12 Strong is currently, let’s just say…
