This has been way overdue. Nearly 4 months after we got a first look at Luc Besson’s return to the space opera genre in a Beatles-backed teaser trailer, the famed director took to Instagram today to announce that the second trailer for his Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planers will land in 25 days from now
– that is Thursday, March 30
UPDATE (March 18): In celebration of his birthday, Besson has shared a trailer tease, announcing the launch for March 29:
Quite far out to announce a trailer, but worth posting nonetheless! Besson fans have been clamouring for new footage since November, with the second teaser that was originally planned to debut in January not materialising (suspecting the marketing & distribution changeup – with EuropaCorp’s slate going to STX – is part of the reason why). We aren’t expecting this to be the final look at Besson’s film, given we still have some way to go until its late July/early August release.
We will be sure to have the trailer here as soon as it is released, and update with more info such as runtime soon.
Valerian and Laureline are special operatives for the government of the human territories charged with maintaining order throughout the universe. Valerian has more in mind than a professional relationship with his partner – blatantly chasing after her with propositions of romance. But his extensive history with women, and her traditional values, drive Laureline to continuously rebuff him. Under directive from their Commander, Valerian and Laureline embark on a mission to the breathtaking intergalactic city of Alpha, an ever-expanding metropolis comprised of thousands of different species from all four corners of the universe. Alpha’s seventeen million inhabitants have converged over time – uniting their talents, technology and resources for the betterment of all. Unfortunately, not everyone on Alpha shares in these same objectives; in fact, unseen forces are at work, placing our race in great danger.
Starring Dane DeHaan, Cara Delevingne, Clive Owen and Rihanna, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets lands in U.S. theatres on July 21, and in the UK on August 4. See the teaser trailer from last November below:
