We wish we could call this one confirmed but this is a trailer update that has us scratching our heads a bit…

Deluxe Digital Cinema have sent out what is supposedly a brand new trailer for James Foley’s Fifty Shades Darker to North American cinemas this week, with the suggested placement in front of Shut In. It’s labeled as Trailer 2, the file is dated October 10 (as opposed to the first trailer’s August 31 – it was subsequently released online September 13), but what has us stumped is the runtime which is exactly the same as Trailer 1 – 2 minutes 7 seconds. This isn’t the first time we’ve called a false alarm on what could supposedly be a new trailer but is instead just a slightly re-jigged version of an existing one that is passed off as ‘new’ (examples from this summer included Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk and Inferno), so we are being cautious with this one.

So what do you think? Will we be getting a new trailer for the anticipated sequel to Fifty Shades of Grey or not? If you see the ‘new’ trailer in theatres this weekend – or are a theatre worker who has received the trailer – and it is indeed new, do let us know…

When a wounded Christian Grey tries to entice a cautious Ana Steele back into his life, she demands a new arrangement before she will give him another chance. As the two begin to build trust and find stability, shadowy figures from Christian’s past start to circle the couple, determined to destroy their hopes for a future together.

Starring Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson, and also featuring Kim Basinger and Hugh Dancy, Fifty Shades Darker is released February 10, 2017. See the first trailer below:
