UPDATE: Deluxe Digital Cinema have sent the trailer to cinemas for this week’s releases! We are expecting it to arrive sometime between now and Thursday evening. Original post follows:
M. Night Shyamalan’s Split debuted at Fantastic Fest last month and is being hailed as the director’s return to form (currently holding 78% on Rotten Tomatoes). Following a pretty great teaser trailer back in July, Universal are about to bring out a brand new trailer for the film, which was rated today by Consumer Protection BC.
It’s slightly surprising that Universal don’t appear to be using this weekend’s release of their critically-acclaimed Ouija: Origin of Evil to debut the teaser – only the first trailer is slated to play at North American cinemas in front of the film. But, we are expecting it in the next couple of weeks, likely in time for Ron Howard’s Inferno which is the next big domestic studio release following this weekend.
While the mental divisions of those with dissociative identity disorder have long fascinated and eluded science, it is believed that some can also manifest unique physical attributes for each personality, a cognitive and physiological prism within a single being. Though Kevin has evidenced 23 personalities to his trusted psychiatrist, Dr. Fletcher, there remains one still submerged who is set to materialize and dominate all the others. Compelled to abduct three teenage girls led by the willful, observant Casey , Kevin reaches a war for survival among all of those contained within him—as well as everyone around him—as the walls between his compartments shatter apart.
Starring James McAvoy and Anya Taylor-Joy, Split is released January 20. See the first trailer from earlier this summer below:
