Caesar is back and this time, as cliché as it sounds, it’s war. 20th Century Fox presented the first trailer for Matt Reeves’s War For The Planet Of The Apes to attendees at the film’s presentation held as part of New York Comic-Con, with the director and star Andy Serkis both in attendance! The studio also screened a 7-minute work-in-progress clip from the film as well as a behind-the-scenes reel.

While the trailer and the other footage has not been released online by Fox, those at the presentation seem to be very impressed by this first look at the film. Take a look at some Twitter reactions below:

The teaser trailer for the film, meanwhile, does indicate a picture of scope, a tale of war, and an adversary (Reeves said he doesn’t like to think of any of his characters as “bad guys”) in the person of Woody Harrelson as the Colonel which will hopefully provide Caesar with his greatest challenge yet. Given the late July release, we aren’t expecting this trailer to be released until closer to the year’s end – we will be sure to let you know as soon as we hear it’s on the way. For those needing those trailer descriptions now – a number of them are online now, like one from /Film.

In War for the Planet of the Apes, the third chapter of the critically acclaimed blockbuster franchise, Caesar and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel. After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind. As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and the Colonel are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both their species and the future of the planet.

Also starring Woody Harrelson and Judy Greer, War for the Planet of the Apes is released July 14, 2017. Check out the motion poster that debuted earlier today below:
